About the Project

Stony Oaks provides much needed and welcomed affordable housing to Santa Rosa, a community still trying to rebuild housing after the Tubbs fire of 2017. The site design integrates an existing grove of mature oak trees to create a gracious entry and outdoor amenity spaces for residents to enjoy the surrounding canopy of trees and wildflowers. Situated on a long narrow site, the building intentionally steps down to three and then two stories to reflect and mirror the adjacent neighborhood context. The contemporary elevation features changes in roof form, massing and color, and material blocking, creating a rhythm along the building façade and scaling down of the overall mass.

The four-story apartment community offers a mixture of one-, two- and three-bedroom units reserved for individuals and families earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income. On-site amenities include a community center, learning center, indoor children’s playroom, lending library, fitness room, game rooms, and a work-from-home center with flex rooms. Resident needs are also supported by resident services and on-site property management.
