Major Renovation of the Hyatt Regency Orange County Begins

IRVINE, Calif. – R.D. Olson Construction, one of California’s leading hotel builders, has completed its renovations of the Hyatt Regency Orange County in Garden Grove, Calif.  Renovations were made to the lobby, ballroom, lounge and restaurant at a project cost of $25 million.

The atrium lobby has taken on a whole new look with sleek curved booth seating, new porcelain tan tile flooring and a registration desk made of cerused oak with a CaesarStone top and an onyx face. The registration desk sits in front of a newly built fanciful wall of teak wood, specialty glass and special LED lighting. Seventeen stories of windows serve as the backdrop for the registration desk, making for a dramatic presentation.

R.D. Olson also renovated the OC Brewhouse, a bar rich in curved dark teak wood and custom glass doors that connect to the lounge. To enhance the lighting, R.D. Olson built a custom backlit art panel set in a custom millwork frame and ceramic tile flooring that resembles wood planking.
The Royal Ballroom was also transformed by bringing a fresh opulence to the already grand space. R.D. Olson installed new teak millwork throughout to include the ceiling, doors, crown molding, and base boards.  The framed ceiling will be especially artful with a raised soft-lit indirect lighting placed in covered areas, and custom chandeliers. New wall coverings complement the room’s other many new design elements.

Making for an entirely new presentation, the hotel’s signature restaurant, TusCA, features a large decorative pizza oven and new buffet counter. Set within the 17-story atrium lobby, the dining room, curved booth seating, oversized metal-framed umbrellas, and large palm trees embrace the California culture.

The renovation was designed by Looney & Associates of Chicago. The architect is Kollin Altomare Architects of Long Beach, Calif.

The hotel is located at 11999 Harbor Blvd., on the corner of Chapman and Harbor. The hotel is owned by Inland American and managed by Hyatt Hotels & Resorts.

R.D. Olson Construction, based in Irvine, Calif., was founded in 1979. It has grown into one of the top 50 general contracting firms in California, building such establishments as the 174-room Renaissance ClubSport in Aliso Viejo; Marriott Residence Inn Long Beach; Marriott Newport Coast Villas, Newport Beach; Ojai Valley Inn & Spa Resort, Ojai; and three Marriott Residence Inns in Burbank, Oceanside and Irvine.
