Santa Catalina Island - Descanso Beach | Avalon, CA

About the project:

Sandy beaches, tropical foliage and mellow yellow bungalows are the makings of Descanso Beach – an island haven that R.D. Olson Construction renovated and expanded. While keeping the true beachcomber essence of the property, R.D. Olson gave the site new life. At completion, a scattering of six quaint buildings that house restrooms and changing stations dot the 15-acre property. Three new offices were built for the beach club manager, chef and technology crew. Even the bride-to-be has her own newly built outdoor dressing room for when she says her “I do” on the refurbished stage characterized by white elegance, Festoon lighting and a Pacific Ocean backdrop. To create this romantic setting, R.D. Olson demolished the existing stage and built the larger one 50 feet inland. The restaurant and bar also received some TLC with new paint and added amenities. The artfully placed lighting seen in palm trees, lining the pathways and dangling from steel cables was essential in R.D. Olson’s plans to make this a true island paradise.
