Health Research Association Medical Office, Los Angeles, CA

About the project:

Health Research Association commissioned R.D. Olson to transform this seven-story structure, originally built in 1966 as a hotel, into a medical office complex. Located adjacent to the USC Medical Center in Los Angeles, this extensive 70,000 square foot renovation entailed demolishing the building back to its basic structure, adding on seven stories, and seismically reinforcing the building with new caissons, concrete grade beams, and steel X-bracing. To meet the standards of medical office facilities, the project included new elevators, plumbing and HVAC, communications, fire/life safety and electrical. Interior improvements included Health Research Association corporate headquarters, medical office suites, lobby areas on seven floors, and a conference center and restaurant. Involved in the project from the beginning, R.D. Olson provided early cost analysis, scheduling and value engineering services.
