R. D. Olson Construction to Embellish Indian Wells Resort

Indian Wells, Calif.--R.D. Olson Construction, an Irvine-based company specializing in hotels, country clubs and restaurants, has been contracted to start new construction and renovation of existing structures that comprise the 640,000-square-foot Renaissance Esmeralda Resort. The hotel is located at 44-400 Indian Wells Lane, near the newly established Indian Wells Tennis Arena, where some of the sport’s greatest titleholders have played.

Olson will provide conceptual pricing, biding, estimating and general contracting for the three-phased project. The first phase will include conversion of existing meeting space to a 10,000-square-foot full-treatment spa with an adjoining 4,000-square-foot spa garden. Construction of the initial phase will begin November 1. Phase two entails new construction of a 42,500-square-foot ballroom with tastefully placed millwork and fabric walling throughout, exquisite hanging chandeliers, and an elaborate pre-function area. Construction of the ballroom and spa garden will begin December 1. As the final phase, Olson will build a 108,000-square-foot two-level parking garage to provide easy access to the new ballroom. The entire project is expected to be completed by November 1, 2002.

“We have built a large number of prestigious facilities throughout the desert and are especially pleased to have received the contract to build the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort,” said Dennis Reyling, president, R.D. Olson Construction. “This will be a great addition to the area.”

The 15-year-old resort is owned by CTF Hotels & Resorts. Hornberger Worstell, Inc. was the original facility architect. Again, the firm was retained for the expansion of the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort. The spa and ballroom interiors were designed by Barry Design Associates, Inc.

R.D. Olson Construction was founded in 1979 by Robert Olson. The company has since built such well-known establishments as the Marriott Residence Inn, Irvine; Springhill Suites, Hawthorne; and Dave & Buster’s, Hawaii. Current projects include Morton’s Steakhouse, Santa Ana, Calif. and Honolulu, Hawaii; and Homewood Suites and Hilton Garden Inn, a two-hotel resort in San Diego. R.D. Olson Construction is the twelfth largest company of its kind in Orange County with its corporate office in Irvine, Calif.
