IRVINE, Calif.--R. D. Olson Construction won the contract to build the initial phase of Marriott Vacation Club International's Marriott's Desert Shadows. The Irvine-based construction company will build seven structures totaling $6 million for the golf and vacation ownership resort, including the villas sales center, and ancillary and maintenance buildings to facilitate the golf course.
Irvine-based R. D. Olson Construction is a nationwide general contractor and construction management company specializing in building hospitality, entertainment, retail and country club facilities. The company is currently working on another Marriott Vacation Club International project--Marriott's Newport Coast Villas.
"We are excited that Marriott has offered us another opportunity to build for them," said Dennis Reyling, president, R. D. Olson Construction. "This is the beginning of a major resort ownership development and we are proud to be in on the initial stages.'
Marriott's Desert Shadows will encompass one square mile located between Gerald Ford Dr. and Frank Sinatra Drive in Palm Desert. Start of construction will begin in October 1999 with a completion date scheduled for March 2000. M. B. H. Architects is responsible for the design of the seven structures.
R. D. Olson Construction was founded in 1979 by Robert Olson. The company has since built such well-known establishments as the Tustin Ranch Country Club, Tustin; Indian Wells Country Club, Palm Desert; and Dave and Buster's, Orange and Irvine. R. D. Olson Construction is currently building Southern Highlands Golf Club, Las Vegas, NV.; Fairfield Suites, Arcadia; and Hilton Garden Inn, El Segundo. The construction firm is the twelfth largest company of its kind in Orange County, with its corporate office in Irvine, Calif.
