R.D. Olson Construction Wins Contract to Build Extended Stay Hotel in Northern California

PLEASANT HILL, CALIF.--R.D. Olson Construction, an Irvine-based firm specializing in hotels, restaurants and retail outlets, has been awarded the contract to build The Summerfield Suites in Pleasant Hill, Calif. Located at 2261 Contra Costa Blvd., the hotel will support the city’s mission in attracting hoteliers for business travelers and tourists.

Olson will provide general contracting for the four-story structure at a project cost of $12.3 million.

The Summerfield Suites will be an extended stay hotel, which includes 142 suites, three meeting rooms, and a swimming pool, spa and sport court. Law/Kingdon Architects designed the hotel to create a warm and friendly atmosphere, with plentiful use of cherry wood, marble and granite throughout its lobby and library. Each suite will have a kitchenette and other amenities to give its long-staying guests many of the comforts of home. Construction of the hotel, which is owned by Lodgeworks, will begin October 15 with an expected completion date set for September 15, 2002.

“This particularly impressive extended stay hotel will be an appealing addition to the area and a welcomed facility for tourists,” said Dennis Reyling, president, R.D. Olson Construction.

R.D. Olson Construction was founded in 1979 by Robert Olson. The company has since built such well-known establishments as the Marriott Residence Inn, Irvine; Springhill Suites, Hawthorne; and Dave & Buster’s, Hawaii. Current projects include Morton’s Steakhouse, Santa Ana, Calif. and Honolulu, Hawaii; and Homewood Suites and Hilton Garden Inn, a two-hotel resort in San Diego. R.D. Olson Construction is the twelfth largest company of its kind in Orange County with its corporate office in Irvine, Calif.
