HAWTHORNE, Calif.--R.D. Olson Construction has begun the building of a $8.1 million Springhill Suites located at 14620 Aviation Blvd., Hawthorne, Calif. The Irvine-based construction company, which specializes in hotels, restaurants and business complexes, will provide general contracting services for the 91,000-square-foot Marriott Corporation-owned hotel.

"We have worked with Marriott Corporation on many projects," said Dennis Reyling, president, R.D. Olson Construction. "We are pleased they recognize our high standards of workmanship and continue to consider us one of their primary contractors."

Upon completion, Springhill Suites will be a six-story structure housing 164 suites, two conference rooms, a board room, breakfast area, exercise area, pool and jacuzzi. Catering to the traveling professional, it will feature a business center equipped with fax machines and computers with Internet access. The hotel was designed by Johnson Braund Design Group based in Seattle, Wash. The expected completion date is set for May 2001.
