R.D. Olson Construction to Build Spa in Popular Mall

BREA, Calif – While the Brea Mall has always been a haven for shoppers and moviegoers, soon it will also be a sanctuary for those who want pampering when R.D. Olson Construction renovates an inoperative theater and transforms it into the Glen Ivy Day Spa. The spa will be located at 1065 Brea Mall, #1001.

In providing pre construction and general contracting services, Irvine-based Olson will renovate the existing space into a 14,000-square-foot luxury spa with twenty-one treatment rooms including 14 massage areas, five facial suites, men’s and women’s locker rooms, two Roman baths, two steam rooms, and a total of eight manicure and pedicure stations.

"Malls and hotels have found a new way to cater to its guests, which marks the beginning of a trend," said Dennis Reyling, president, R.D. Olson Construction. "We are pleased to work with a company that is at forefront of this new concept."

The Glen Ivy Day Spa is an offshoot of its parent company, Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa in Corona. Originally dating back to the 1870s, Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa was re-built in the 1980s and has since been rated as one of the country’s finest. Much like the Corona spa, the Glen Ivy Day Spa at Brea Mall will offer peaceful garden settings with trickling waterfalls and as much lush foliage as the indoor setting will allow. A large greenhouse room including a fireplace encased by bookshelves will serve as a retreat where guests can lift their feet and relax, or enjoy a beverage, snack or lunch. The Glen Ivy Day Spa also will be home to a Spa Lifestyle Store, a retail innovation especially designed for the Brea Mall location.

Even the spa’s exterior has an earthy feel, with an elaborate copper fountain decorating the main entrance, which will be located outside of the mall. The spa’s only connection to the mall’s interior will be a large show window offering a hint of the many luxuries awaiting those who wish to indulge.

T.S. Voelker Architecture, the Irvine-based firm credited with the spa’s design, is specifying a palette of natural finishes in an effort to replicate the unpretentious natural luxury of the original Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa. Plans include stone flooring, patina copper roof elements, and natural woods. Total project costs will be $1.5 million.

Construction is scheduled to begin on April 1 with a completion date set for October 1, 2002.
