RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. -
The historic Mission Inn is bringing its popular Las Campanas
Restaurant & Cantina to new locations starting with a prototype in
Rancho Cucamonga on which R.D. Olson Construction will break ground
in June. The $3.2 million restaurant will be a 7,200-square-foot
freestanding building located within a planned new retail center at
the intersection of Foothill and Milliken avenues.
This is the first of what is expected to be a chain of Las Campanas
restaurants outside of Mission Inn.
“We think the Las Campanas chain concept will be popular with
discriminating diners who value good food and a festive and
appealing atmosphere,” said Robert Olson, CEO/president of
Irvine-based R.D. Olson Construction.
The prototype restaurant will impart the ambiance of the original
Las Campanas, where guests enjoy gourmet Mexican cuisine indoors or
under the stars on a Spanish patio made comfortable year-round
through outdoor heating and misting systems.
Designed by Diane White of D.W. Architects, the new Las Campanas
will feature ornate windows, archways, fountains and a pre-cast
stone façade. The restaurant will be crowned with a tiled dome and
programmable bell akin to the carillon that rings hourly at Mission
Inn.
Las Campanas is owned by Duane and Kelly Roberts. Ideas for future
Las Campanas restaurants include more free-standing restaurants and
possibly restaurants within shopping centers.
Robert Olson founded R.D. Olson Construction in 1979. It has since
grown into one of the largest general contracting companies in
California. The company has built establishments for such clients as
Marriott, Hilton and Benihana to name a few. Current projects under
construction in California include Union Station Village at Los
Angeles Union Station; Ocean Ranch shopping center, Laguna Niguel;
Burbank Residence Inn, Burbank; and Marriott’s Shadow Ridge, Palm
Desert. Out of state Olson is working on completing the Benihana,
Coral Gables, FL.
