R.D. Olson Construction Builds Spa in California Five-Star Hotel

MARINA DEL REY, Calif. – R.D. Olson Construction broke ground April 1 on a lavish $2.4 million boutique spa at the Ritz Carlton, Marina del Rey, creating a new dimension of luxury at the Los Angeles area’s only AAA Five-Star waterfront hotel.

The Irvine-based construction company, known for having built such prominent spas as Ojai Valley Inn & Spa; Glen Ivy Day Spa in Corona and Hermosa Beach; and Kelly’s Spa in the historic Mission Inn, Riverside, will serve as the general contractor.

“R.D. Olson’s selection by the Ritz Carlton reflects our company’s reputation for superior workmanship and attention to detail. When the facility opens, guests will enjoy a spa experience in the impeccable surroundings they expect from a top-tier hotel,” said R.D. Olson Construction President Joe Kilar.

The 5,000 square foot spa in a refreshing blue-and-white scheme was designed locally by Houston/Tyner Architects, and is expected to open in August 2007.

The project will transform and amplify the hotel’s current fitness and spa menu, which will continue to be offered uninterrupted for guests through the construction period. The expansion will enhance the spa experience with eight new treatment rooms, manicure and pedicure services, dry sauna therapy, restful lounges, a retail shop and a cardio/weight studio featuring the latest technology.

Extensive stonework and satinay woodwork throughout the spa will create a luxurious ambiance, with added interested provided by dimensional wall coverings studded with randomly sized glass beading. The spa will be accessed from a new copper-topped entrance.

Kilar last year assumed the title of president, succeeding Robert Olson who founded R.D. Olson Construction in 1979. The company has grown into one of the largest general contracting companies in California, building such establishments as Ojai Valley Inn & Spa Resort, Ojai; Marriott Newport Coast Villas, Newport Beach; Glen Ivy Hot Springs & Spa, Corona; Brentwood County Club, Los Angeles and more than 300 restaurants nationwide. Current projects under construction include Renaissance ClubSport, Aliso Viejo; Burbank Residence Inn, Burbank; Union Station Village, Los Angeles; and Marriott’s Shadow Ridge, Palm Desert.
