R.D. Olson Construction to Build Los Angeles Area Hotel

HAWTHORNE, Calif.--Irvine based R.D. Olson Construction has been awarded a $7.1 million contract to build Townplace Suites, Hawthorne--an extended-stay hotel. It is owned and operated by the Marriott Corporation. R.D. Olson Construction will provide general contracting for the 80,000-square-foot, 144-room hotel located at 14000 Aviation Blvd. Designed by Seattle-based Johnson Braund Design, the four-story building’s exterior will consist of two stories of stone veneer and two stories of stucco with wood trim. "We have built many projects for Marriott Corporation and appreciate working with such a progressive company," said Dennis Reyling, president, R.D. Olson Construction. Upon opening, Townplace Suites will cater to guests visiting the area for five days or more. The expected completion date is set for May 2001. R.D. Olson Construction is a national general contractor and construction management company, which specializes in building country clubs, hotels and restaurants nationwide. Founded in 1979 by Robert Olson, the company has since built such well-known establishments as the Mercado Plaza, Palm Springs; Indian Wells Country Club, Palm Desert; and Hilton Garden Inn, Arcadia. Current projects under construction in California include: Marriott Newport Coast Villas, Newport Beach; Marriott Shadow Ridge, Palm Desert; and Townplace Suites, Newark. R.D.
