Los Angeles, Calif. - Irvine-based R.D. Olson Construction has completed the $3 million renovation of the W Los Angeles owned by one of the world's largest hospitality chains, Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc. R.D. Olson Construction is a general contractor and construction management company specializing in building hotels, retail outlets and office complexes nationwide.
R.D. Olson Construction provided complete pre-construction management and general contracting for the 36,000-square-foot hotel renovation located at 930 Hilgard Ave., Los Angeles. The W Los Angeles remained open during renovation. Renovations included major changes to the existing lobby, banquet and dining facilities, indoor bar, restrooms, and conference and meeting areas. It also included building a new exterior pool bar area dotted with ten cabanas and conversion of interior space into a new health spa featuring facial and massage treatment units and locker rooms with steam baths.
"We used the most advanced construction technology to date to create an impressive world-class hotel," said Dennis Reyling, president, R.D. Olson Construction.
The exterior renovations include a fiber optic lit glass staircase entry revealing threads of trinkling water underneath as part of its design - a new concept to the industry. The interior includes original exotic metals for cabinetry and shelving, 20-foot glass panels designed to slide with the touch of a finger, wood flooring, plentiful use of ornate draperies and wall fabrics to give the hotel a luxurious state-of-the-art ambiance. The renovations for the hotel were designed by Powerstrip. The Architect is Brouse Huddy Architects.
