R.D. Olson Construction To Remake World Famous Resort |
| |
OJAI,
Calif.— R.D. Olson Construction, specialists in hotels, restaurants
and country clubs, has broken ground on 165,750 square feet of new
construction and extensive renovations to the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa
Resort. This massive overhaul and expansion of the resort will have a
project cost of $46 million. The world-renowned Ojai Valley Inn & Spa
Resort is located at 905 Country Club Road in Ojai.
Irvine-based R.D. Olson Construction, the general contractor of the
entire project, will build five sets of villas, each housing 12-20
units. This will add a total of 126 suites.
Whether plans call for a hillside setting or lining the fairway, each
villa complex will flaunt its own individualized Spanish-colonial
style, blending with the long-enjoyed flavor of the eighty-year-old
resort. The existing villas, home to 206 suites, will undergo
extensive renovation.
Blueprints also call for a new lobby and convention center. The
convention center will be combined with existing meeting rooms to
triple the size of space dedicated as a business area for guests.
Outdoor construction includes a new golf pro-shop and pool with
amenities.
R.D. Olson Construction also will renovate Ojai Valley Inn & Spa
Resort’s two most popular restaurants, Maravilla and Oak Café. And
while the Topa Topa Mountains already provide the inn and spa with
unequaled natural beauty, the construction company will provide
landscaping services to enhance the resort’s newest developments.
“The Crown Family entrusted RD Olson Construction to lead the project
team to add on and renovate this historic property,” said Bob Olson,
president and CEO, R.D. Olson Construction.
R.D. Olson Construction has spent the past year providing
pre-construction services, readying the resort for its major overhaul.
Temporary roadways and infrastructure systems have been put in place
in preparation for the improvements.
R.D. Olson Construction was contracted for the job three years after
completing construction of the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa Resort’s
luxurious 31,000-square-foot spa.
The design team is comprised of three architecture firms. William
Mahan, AIA, who is based in Santa Barbara and known for his work on
many West Coast resorts, was in charge of the project’s overall design
concept. David Bury, a local Ojai architect, designed all freestanding
villas. And, Three Architecture, a Dallas, Texas-based firm, provided
the design for the resort’s hillside villas and common area buildings
including the pro-shop, convention center, and hacienda building, home
to the resort’s two prominent cafes. Three Architecture also designed
all hardscape and softscape site improvements. Cheryl Rowley Interior
Designs of Beverly Hills was responsible for all internal design
elements.
The spa, golf course, tennis center, ranch, stables and many of its
suites will remain open during the 18-month renovation and expansion.
Completion is set for late 2004.
R.D. Olson Construction was founded in 1979 by Robert D. Olson. The
company has since built such well-known establishments as the
Renaissance Esmeralda Resort, Indian Wells and Sports Club LA, Beverly
Hills—both in California. Current projects in California include
Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort, Dana Point; Casa de Amma Assisted
Living, San Juan Capistrano; and Marriott’s Shadow Ridge, Palm Desert. |
