Leading Orange County Construction Company Expands San Diego Hotel

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – R.D. Olson Construction, an Irvine-based firm specializing in hotels, retail outlets and business complexes, has been contracted to build additions to the San Diego Blue Sea Lodge.

Overlooking the Pacific Ocean at 707 Pacific Beach Dr., the lodge will undergo 21,600 square feet of major reconstruction including renovation of the lobby and the addition of two buildings, which will house 28 rooms. Olson also will expand the parking garage by 4,000 square feet. Construction costs will total $2.9 million.

In keeping with San Diego’s early California charm, SGPA Architecture and Planning designed the hotel’s renovations and additions to enhance its current flavorful Mediterranean style, which incorporates sand-colored stucco and blue tile roofs.

"Once complete, the facility will reflect San Diego’s seaport feel and friendliness even more than it already does," said Dennis Reyling, president, R. D. Olson Construction.

Construction of the Blue Sea Lodge, which is owned by Invest West Financial Corporation of Santa Barbara, is scheduled for completion in summer 2003.

R.D. Olson Construction was founded in 1979 by Robert Olson. The company has since built such well-known establishments as the Marriott Residence Inn, Irvine and Springhill Suites, Hawthorne in California and Dave & Buster’s in Honolulu, Hawaii. Current projects in California include Renaissance Esmeralda Resort, Indian Wells; Hilton Garden Inn, Calabasas; and Benihana in San Diego. Olson is also building a Benihana in Golden Valley, MN and The Woodlands, Texas. R. D. Olson Construction is the twelfth largest company of its kind in Orange County with its corporate office in Irvine, Calif.
