R. D. Olson Construction Combines Asian and Industrial Design to Give Japanese Restaurant a Dramatic Flare

  WESTBURY, LONG ISLAND, New York – R.D. Olson Construction, an Irvine-based firm, has been contracted to build a Benihana New York in Westbury, Long Island that sways from the chain’s typical décor. The new restaurant will boast a rare combination of exotic Japanese design with today’s popular industrial look.  

R.D. Olson Construction will provide pre construction and general contracting services for the 7,400-square-foot restaurant that will be characterized by its exposed structural steel interiors including beams, columns, and flat roof metal decking. This newest addition to the Benihana chain was designed by Tomaino, Tomaino, Iamello & Associates, a New Jersey based architectural firm.

"This is a contemporary design style that will add a dramatic flare to this type of restaurant," said Dennis Reyling, president, R.D. Olson Construction.

The Benihana New York is located on the corner of Merchants Concourse and Privado Rd. across the street from The Source Mall, a major shopping center. Construction will begin late January with a scheduled completion date set for August 2002.

Other restaurants the company has built for Benihana National Corporation are in San Diego and Santa Monica in Calif.; The Woodlands in Texas, and Golden Valley in Minnesota, which currently is under construction.

R.D. Olson Construction was founded in 1979 by Robert Olson. The company has since built such well-known establishments as the Marriott Residence Inn, Irvine, Springhill Suites, Hawthorne; and Morton’s Steakhouse, Santa Ana. Current projects include Renaissance Esmeralda Resort, Indian Wells; Hilton Garden Inn, Calabasas; and Holiday Inn, Santa Clarita – all in California. R.D. Olson Construction is the twelfth largest company of its kind in Orange County with its corporate office in Irvine, Calif.
