HERMOSA BEACH, Calif.—R.D.
Olson Construction, specialists in building spas, hotels and
restaurants, has completed the Glen Ivy Day Spa in Hermosa Beach,
Calif. This newest addition to the already-famous Glen Ivy Day Spa
chain is located at 1601 Pacific Coast Highway.
The
14,000-square-foot spa was part of an extensive renovation and
expansion of the Hermosa Pavilion. It includes 20 treatment rooms
including 13 massage areas, five facial suites, separate men’s and
women’s spas and locker rooms, two steam rooms and manicure and
pedicure stations.
One of the spa’s most
distinguishing features is The Grotto. Modeled after the original
granite cavern at the Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa, this grotto-style
high-humidity room-to-room therapeutic walk-through allows guests to
enjoy an array of treatments such as exfoliating scrubs and rinses,
mist chambers, and sea kelp and aloe vera moisturizing
brushings--all within a social setting.
“The Glen Ivy spa in
Hermosa exemplifies cutting edge architecture and innovative design
to support the latest in body treatments,” said Robert Olson,
CEO/President, R.D. Olson Construction. “We enjoy being part of the
Glen Ivy team as it sets new standards for California’s spas.”
Irvine-based T.S.
Voelker Architecture is credited for the Glen Ivy Spa’s
architectural design and Palm Springs-based Paula Walters
Productions for its interior design. The design team employed
natural wood, stone and tile finishes to replicate the unpretentious
natural luxury of the original Corona-based Glen Ivy Hot Springs
Spa. Each area of the spa has its own unique feel. Arched
cream-colored hallways are lined with rustic yet modern light,
giving off a warm reflective glow. The lobby’s high airy ceiling is
accentuated by a large cascading water sculpture below that subtly
nourishes the eyes and ears. The café features a stone and
wood-bordered fireplace and safari style lights that dangle from
patina cooper slats allowing for sunlight to shine through. All
design elements of the spa harmonize with the lush vegetation to
create a grotto-style atmosphere intended to satisfy the most
discriminate of tastes.
R.D. Olson
additionally is credited for constructing the Glen Ivy Day Spa in
Brea. Known for its work on high-end treatment centers, the company
also completed several other prominent California spas including the
Four Seasons Aviara Spa and Mission Inn’s Kelley’s Spa at Mission
Inn.
Robert Olson founded
