FREMONT, Calif. --
R.D. Olson Construction, specialists in hotels, senior and student
lodging, and multi-family projects, is building a 132-unit
Craftsman-style affordable housing in the Centerville neighborhood in
Fremont. The project is expected to revitalize what many considered a
lackluster section of the neighborhood, and initiate new residential
and retail growth in the surrounding area.
R.D. Olson, the
Irvine-based general contractor, broke ground on the $21 million Maple
Square Apartment Homes development late last year and expects to
finish it by December.
Located at Baine
Avenue and Maple Street, the community consists of studios and one-,
two- and three-bedroom apartments in four buildings. It is ideally
situated on 5.4 acres that is within walking distance from the
Centerville Train Depot and the retail/residential complex--the
Centerville Market Place, which also is under development.
All of the
apartments will have porches and patios. To accommodate residents, a
parking garage will be constructed under one of the four apartment
buildings. Underground parking is an unusual amenity for such a
project. Aboveground parking also is in the blueprints.
The wood-frame
apartments are located in part of a Fremont redevelopment area and are
bounded by single-family homes and some commercial development. Maple
Square Apartment Homes will feature a recreation room, computer
learning center, toddler pen, tot lot, picnic and barbecue areas, and
play court.
Robert Olson, CEO
and president, R.D. Olson Construction, sees the complex as a positive
addition to the neighborhood. “We believe this will be a good fit for
the community and provide comfortable housing for those who need it,"
said Olson.
Affirmed Housing
Group, a Southern California developer, will own the complex, which
was designed by KTGY Group of Irvine.
R.D. Olson
Construction was founded in 1979. The company has built such
establishments as Casa de Amma Assisted Living, San Juan Capistrano;
Courtyard by Marriott, Lake Forest; and The Historic Mission Inn Spa,
Riverside. Current projects include Union Station Village Apartments
at Los Angeles Union Station; University Student Housing, Riverside, a
$50 million addition and renovation of the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa
Resort, Ojai; and the Hilton Garden Inn, Oxnard. |
